Headteacher Miss Diane Anderson BA (Hons) PGCE

Dear Parents/Carers/Prospective Schools,

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for your interest in FreshSteps Education Centre. In November 2017 Ofsted rated us as an ‘Outstanding school this is testament to the hard work that the FRESHSTEPS team put in and the belief they have in all the pupils and also the belief in the aims and ethos of the school.

FreshSteps Education Centre is a thriving and dynamic private independent school that provides an alternative curriculum than that of mainstream education. The centre is aimed at students who are or are at risk of permanent exclusion, are school refusers or those who find it difficult to cope with and/or learn in a mainstream classroom.

Established in 2009, FreshSteps now enters its 10th year boasting a 100% past rate in its most recent exam results. Since opening, the school has worked closely with the Special Educational Needs services in Enfield and recently has expanded its catchment area to work with and meet the growing demands for places from the neighbouring borough of Haringey  and Barnet. We accept students both on a long and short term basis, understanding that some students simply require additional support before being reintegrated back into mainstream school.

At FreshSteps our students will discover a supportive and friendly environment. High standards of discipline and behaviour are expected and maintained thus ensuring a safe working environment where every individual is encouraged to strive for excellence.

FreshSteps offers personalised learning environments, with classes of up to five students. We aim to remove the barriers to learning experienced by young people so that they can feel safe, confident and happy to attend the centre daily. The ethos is to encourage an atmosphere of tolerance and respect and to create an environment that is conducive to learning and free from unacceptable risk.

Our students study a predominately creative curriculum that still places emphasis on the core subjects; English, Maths and Science. Students will study the core subjects alongside ICT, Design & Technology and Art & Design and we aim to make all lessons as hands on as possible, catering for all learning styles. Our after-school extended learning programme also supports students who need extra support in Literacy and Numeracy.

Our new Primary phase established at the beginning of 2018 has been a tremendous success and we welcome in September 2018 our first set of transition from our primar to our primadery year 7 KS3 secondary phase.

We appoint outstanding staff who bring vision, enthusiasm, energy and high standards to the school.

We Welcome our move to the schools new location in Crews Hill, we believe the area provides a wider range of activities, opportunities and social experiences for our students.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged.
